Once again I’m late and I get into the plane in the last minute. It’s 9:15 in the morning, this is a shuttle flight, having two stops and therefore it’s full. There is no seat assignment either. Being late, I have to go all the way to the back of plane. I end up sitting on the last row and in the middle seat, between two gentlemen. An old guy is sitting on my right, dressed neatly and casually. He looks being in a great shape for his age too. I put my briefcase down, take my notebook out and start drawing some schematics and writing notes, trying to formulate some ideas. As soon as I stop writing, the old guy starts talking: “Small space, huh?” Then, somewhat unwillingly, our conversation starts.

He is going up to visit his son who lives in Seattle. He is a Jew minister and just came back from a visit to Israel for the second time. His grand-grandfather was from Russia and his first visit to Israel was in 1930’s, when he was 10 years old. He says he lived there for a while then. He tells me that Jews and Muslims used to live in peace before the country was established. They had Arab neighbors and he used to play with their kids. There was no hate or rage between Jews and Muslims. He believes the country started only because of World War II and holocaust. And he goes on about the situation now with deep sorrow and sadness...

He also talks about their branch of Judaism who believes in Jesus as Messiah, which is another story.
